REASONS WHY THUNDERSTORMS ENTER NIGERIA FROM THE EAST
[Chad, Cameroon, Central Africa, and Sudan]
Most of the time, the thunderstorms and rainfall we experience in Northern Nigeria originate from the east.
👏 We hope you'll like and share so others can benefit.
This isn't all — there are major reasons like these 👇
🌪️ 1. The direction of the monsoon wind flow (Wind flow)
The monsoon wind moves from east to west, pushing clouds directly toward Nigeria.
🌡️ 2. High temperatures in the eastern regions
The areas of Chad, Cameroon, and Central Africa are very hot, which helps generate heavy, powerful clouds.
🌩️ 3. Meeting of hot and cold air
Hot air from the ground + cold air from above = strong thunderstorms (instability).
🌫️ 4. Accumulation of storms before entering Nigeria
Storms have time to grow significantly in these regions before arriving.
🌍 5. Influence of Sudan
Sometimes storms from Sudan merge with those from Chad and Cameroon — greatly increasing their intensity.
📌 In summary:
The East is the main pathway through which storms enter Northern Nigeria.
⚠️ Note:
Not every storm reaches Nigeria — some weaken along the way, while others become major thunderstorms.
🔥 Be prepared!
Storms from the east can arrive faster than expected.
