Australia Grants Asylum To Two More Members Of Iranian Women’s Football Team

The government of Australia has granted asylum to two additional members of the Iran women's national football team, allowing them to remain in the country over concerns about their safety if they returned to Iran.

Officials said the players applied for protection visas after travelling to Australia for sporting activities and later expressing fears of possible persecution back home.

Human rights groups say female athletes from Iran sometimes face restrictions and pressure related to political views, dress codes, and public expression, especially when competing internationally.

The decision means the two footballers will now be able to live and work legally in Australia, joining other Iranian athletes who have previously sought asylum abroad.

Authorities in Australia said asylum applications are assessed individually, based on international refugee protection rules and the applicant’s personal circumstances.
