Zamfara Governor Honoured Fallen Security Personnel, Reaffirmed Commitment to Their Families

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has paid glowing tribute to fallen officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Police and other security agencies who lost their lives in the line of duty, assuring that their sacrifices toward restoring peace and security in the state will not be in vain.

In a statement signed by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, the governor said the assurance was given on Thursday during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau.

The governor, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, described the annual remembrance as a solemn occasion to reflect on the courage, patriotism and selflessness of security personnel who laid down their lives in defence of the nation.

He noted that Zamfara State had, in recent years, borne a heavy burden of insecurity arising from banditry, terrorism and other criminal activities, stressing that the resilience and commitment of the Armed Forces and other security agencies had been instrumental in efforts to restore peace and stability.

“Many of our brave sons and daughters have paid the ultimate price in the course of restoring peace to our communities. Today, we salute their courage and reaffirm our collective resolve to build a safer and more prosperous Zamfara State,” the governor said.

Governor Lawal also expressed deep sympathy to the families of fallen heroes, particularly widows, widowers and children left behind, assuring them that the state government would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving their welfare and wellbeing.

“Your loved ones did not die in vain. They died in service to humanity and in defence of our collective future. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten, and their memories shall remain evergreen in the hearts of a grateful people,” he added.

The governor further called on citizens to support security agencies through cooperation and the sharing of credible information, noting that collective responsibility was key to winning the fight against insecurity.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening security operations through improved logistics, enhanced welfare for personnel and the deployment of technically driven intelligence strategies.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is marked annually across the country to honour members of the Armed Forces and security agencies who died in active service, as well as veterans who contributed to the defence and unity of Nigeria.
