Zamfara Begins Special Allowances for Corps Members, Doctors to Earn ₦150,000 Monthly

Gusau – The Zamfara State Government has commenced the payment of special monthly allowances to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state, with medical doctors posted to Zamfara set to receive ₦150,000, while other health professionals will earn ₦50,000.

In addition, all corps members deployed to schools as well as ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of the state government will receive a monthly state allowance of ₦20,000.

Governor Dauda Lawal announced the incentives on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream One corps members in Gusau. He said the initiative underscores his administration’s commitment to the welfare, safety and overall wellbeing of corps members serving in the state.

According to the governor, the special allowances are part of broader efforts to encourage critical manpower, particularly in the health and education sectors, while making Zamfara a more attractive and conducive environment for national service.

“Our administration recognises the important role corps members play in national development and service delivery at the grassroots,” Lawal said. “We are determined to ensure their welfare, safety and comfort throughout their service year in Zamfara State.”

He also highlighted ongoing improvements in public infrastructure and facilities across the state, as well as sustained efforts to strengthen security, assuring corps members of the government’s readiness to protect them.

Governor Lawal further described the NYSC scheme as a vital platform for promoting national unity, integration and patriotism, urging the new corps members to embrace the ideals of selfless service and peaceful coexistence.

Earlier, the State NYSC Coordinator commended the Zamfara State Government for its consistent support to the scheme, describing the newly announced allowances as a major boost to corps members’ morale.

The coordinator advised the corps members to strictly adhere to camp rules and regulations, remain law-abiding, and take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to prepare themselves for life after service.

The swearing-in ceremony marked the official commencement of orientation activities for the 2026 Batch A Stream One corps members deployed to Zamfara State.
