The Zamfara State Government has extended support to the Christian community in the state with the donation of food items, livestock and cash to facilitate the 2025 Christmas celebrations, according to a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Communication, Nuhu Salihu Anka.
The gesture was carried out through the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, where the Honourable Commissioner, Alhaji Garba Yandi, presented the items on behalf of Governor Dauda Lawal.Speaking during the presentation, Yandi said the donation was in line with the inclusive vision of the governor, who is committed to governing Zamfara as a united state, irrespective of religion, tribe or background. He noted that the administration places premium on peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among all communities.
The items donated included 300 bags of 50kg rice, 300 gallons of four-litre vegetable oil, several cows, as well as a cash support of ₦3 million.
The commissioner urged members of the Christian community to use the festive season to pray for lasting peace, improved security and sustainable development in Zamfara State and Nigeria as a whole.
In his response, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Zamfara State, Mr. Michael Tajudden Aziz Afolabi, expressed appreciation to Governor Lawal for the thoughtful intervention, describing it as timely and symbolic, particularly given that it came within his first year in office.
Afolabi commended the governor for prioritising unity, inclusiveness and the welfare of citizens despite inheriting what he described as an empty state treasury. He also acknowledged the support provided by the First Lady, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, especially to Christian women during the festive period.
The CAN leadership offered prayers for the success of the Lawal administration, asking God to grant the governor wisdom, good health and a fruitful tenure.
The donation, stakeholders said, underscores the state government’s commitment to religious harmony and inclusive governance in Zamfara State.
