The United Kingdom has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to several parts of Nigeria, citing rising incidents of terrorism, kidnapping, and violent crime across the country.
In an advisory published on its official website on Sunday, the UK government said insecurity in Nigeria continues to worsen, with kidnapping, armed attacks, and ethnic conflicts affecting most regions.However, the Nigerian government maintains that the security situation is improving. According to 2025 data released by authorities, incidents of mass abductions and terrorist attacks have declined.
“One no longer hears of kidnappings involving over 200 victims at once, as was the case in the past,” presidential spokesperson Abdul’aziz Abdul’aziz told the BBC.
Despite these assurances, the UK advised its nationals to remain cautious when considering travel to Nigeria.
