Tanzania’s Electoral Commission has announced that President Samia Suluhu Hassan won the presidential election held on Wednesday, securing a total of 31,913,866 votes.
The result confirms the dominance of her party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), which once again triumphed over opposition candidates.
According to the commission, the election was conducted peacefully, though some opposition groups expressed concerns over irregularities at certain polling stations. However, international observers commended the process, noting that it showed significant progress in Tanzania’s democratic system.
In her victory speech, President Samia thanked the people of Tanzania for their continued trust and pledged to continue implementing policies that promote economic growth, education, and social welfare. “I thank everyone who supported me. This victory is not mine alone - it belongs to all Tanzanians,” said President Samia Suluhu.
Analysts say her re-election further strengthens the role of women in African politics, as Samia Suluhu remains the first female president in Tanzania’s history.
