The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the recent court order will not prevent it from continuing preparations for its upcoming national convention.
In a statement released by the party’s spokesperson, the PDP said that while it respects the judiciary and the rule of law, there is nothing in the court order that stops the party from proceeding with its internal activities, including the much-anticipated national convention. “Our party respects the court, but the order issued does not restrain us from organizing our national convention. Preparations are already in top gear, and our members across the country are eager to participate,” the statement read.
The PDP added that the convention will serve as an opportunity to strengthen unity, review its constitution, and outline new strategies to reposition the party for future political contests - especially with the 2027 general elections approaching.
However, some members of the party have expressed concerns that the situation could create internal conflicts, particularly if rival factions continue to use court cases to influence the party’s internal processes.
The PDP assured its supporters that everything remains under control, and the convention planning committee is working closely with the party’s legal team to ensure that all preparations comply with the law and the party’s constitution.
