Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has accused the United States of orchestrating a campaign to “fabricate a war” against his government, claiming Washington is using false narratives to destabilize his administration ahead of upcoming elections.
Speaking during a televised address from Caracas, Maduro said the U.S. government and its allies are “spreading lies and manipulating international opinion” to justify sanctions and possible intervention in Venezuela. “They want to create the conditions for aggression against our homeland,” Maduro said. “But we are ready to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty and peace.”
The Venezuelan leader has long accused the U.S. of backing opposition groups and attempting to topple his government through economic pressure and disinformation. Washington, however, maintains that its sanctions and diplomatic measures are meant to promote democracy and human rights in the country.
Tensions between the two nations have escalated in recent weeks as the U.S. criticized Caracas for alleged electoral irregularities and suppression of opposition candidates.
Despite the growing pressure, Maduro said his government remains firm and “will not bow to imperialist threats.”
