Typhoid And It's Symptoms

AT IS TYPHOID?

Typhoid is a disease that affects the intestines and the blood, caused by a bacterium named Salmonella typhi. This bacterium lives in the human body and spreads through poor hygiene, especially via contaminated food and water.

Typhoid

The disease is highly prevalent in areas with poor sanitation and unsafe water, particularly during the rainy season or floods.

SYMPTOMS OF TYPHOID:

Symptoms may appear gradually 6 to 30 days after infection:

.HIGH FEVER(often worsening at night)

.SEVERE HEADACHE (especially in adults.)

.ABDOMINAL PAIN that may shift from lower to upper areas at times.

.LOSS of appetite or reduced hunger

.EXTREME fatigue and body aches

.VOMITING OR NAUSEA

It can cause diarrhea or constipation.

If not treated early,it can lead to intestinal perforation, bleeding, or even death.

HOW TYPHOID SPREADS (Mode of Transmission):

The disease spreads through:

1. Drinking contaminated water or water mixed with the bacteria.

2. Eating unclean food.

3. A person can contract the disease if they don't wash their hands after using the toilet.

4. Not washing raw vegetables properly.

5. Or through flies.

HOW TYPHOID IS DIAGNOSED THROUGH TESTS:

Typhoid can only be confirmed through tests, not just by symptoms alone.

1. Widal Test: A blood test that shows signs of the disease.

2. Blood Culture: The most reliable method, directly detecting the bacteria from the blood.

3. Stool & Urine Test: Testing stool or urine to detect the bacteria.

WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM TYPHOID (Prevention):

Hygiene is the most important method.

Drink clean water that has been boiled or filtered.

Cook food thoroughly.

Wash hands with soap after using the toilet.

Wash hands with soap before and after eating.

Avoid buying food from places with questionable hygiene(like street vendors).

Avoid using unclean water.

ADVICE REGARDING TYPHOID:

It is recommended to go to the hospital to confirm the disease before starting treatment.

Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

Do not self-medicate at home without confirming the disease,as this can lead to drug resistance.

Typhoid is a dangerous disease, but it can be avoided by maintaining good hygiene. If you have symptoms of typhoid, do not delay visiting the hospital.
