Teen Boys Facing Sleep Problems During Puberty — WHO

The World Health Organization explains why teenage boys often struggle with sleep as they grow.

Hormones

The World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that when boys enter puberty, their bodies undergo several biological changes - especially an increase in male hormones (testosterone). This hormonal surge can disrupt normal sleep patterns, causing difficulty in falling or staying asleep at night.

Experts note that the rise and fluctuation of testosterone during puberty can lead to restlessness, fatigue, and irregular sleep schedules among teenage boys. These changes may affect their academic performance, physical growth, and mental health.

WHO advises parents and teachers to help teenage boys develop healthy sleep habits by limiting screen time before bed, encouraging relaxation, and ensuring they have a calm environment to rest during this critical stage of development.
