The court said it would not rule until it heard from the respondent, Omoyele Sowore. The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had filed a suit seeking to ban the protest organized by Sowore to demand Kanu's release.

The court ordered that the court processes be served on Sowore and adjourned the case to October 21. Sowore said the protest is to express their dissatisfaction with the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB who has been detained since 2021.
