Regional Powers Reject U.S. Return to Afghanistan’s Bagram Airbase

Countries including Russia, China, and Iran say foreign troops will threaten regional peace.

Several regional countries have voiced strong opposition to the United States’ reported plan to return to Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan. At a meeting in Moscow, Russia, China, Iran, and others warned that any new foreign military presence would destabilize the region.

The statement, released by Russia’s foreign ministry, emphasized that Afghanistan’s stability should be ensured through regional cooperation - not foreign interference. Taliban officials also insisted that no foreign troops will be allowed back into the country.
