Inspector General of the Nigerian Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the deployment of 45,000 police officers to provide security during the Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
Egbetokun - who is the supervising commissioner of police for the rapid response forces - disclosed this on Tuesday during a meeting with the inter-agency committee held at the headquarters of the national electoral commission in Abuja.
The Inspector General of Police said the deployed officers will ensure security before, during, and after the election.
He added that the deployment of officers will begin on November 1st to eliminate any threats to the election.
Egbetokun also said that besides the police, other security agencies will play a role in the elections, including the Civil Defence, DSS, the civilian defense security force, and the military.
