Judge Denies Elon Musk’s Bid to Move Twitter Case from Washington to Texas

Musk’s Request Rejected Despite Claim of Inconvenience.

A federal judge in Washington, D.C. has refused Elon Musk’s request to transfer a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) out of the capital and into Texas.

Musk had argued that his hectic schedule and residence in Austin made defending the case difficult in Washington. But Judge Sparkle Sooknanan held that Musk has sufficient resources and often spends time in the D.C. area, making litigation there not overly burdensome.

The SEC accuses Musk of delaying disclosure of his 5% stake in Twitter in early 2022, allowing him to purchase shares at lower prices-allegedly saving over $150 million.

Judge Sooknanan also declined Musk’s alternate motion to move the case to Manhattan, citing heavy workloads in Texas courts.
