One issue that security experts are expressing concern about is the group's use of modern technology to carry out attacks, such as the use of weaponized drones or for data collection.
And perhaps the group's technological upgrade is why its attacks have become more frequent, unlike in the past when they were mostly limited to raids.
Dr. Kabiru Adamu, the head of the security firm Beacon Security and Intelligence Limited, said that even in December 2024, the militants carried out four attacks on soldiers by placing bombs on drones.
Dr. Kabiru explained that these groups did not just start using drones now.
"In 2019, we saw instances where these groups used drones, but only for surveillance; they were planting bombs on these drones."
Figures from a group called ACLED,which monitors security, and the Reuters news agency, indicated that so far, Boko Haram has carried out 333 attacks in the northeastern region of Nigeria in this year of 2025.
However, Beacon Security and Intelligence Limited said that according to the data it has collected, the Boko Haram group carried out 199 attacks from January 1st to September 31st, 2025.
The head of the firm, Dr. Kabiru Adamu, said that many analysts of Boko Haram's activities do not distinguish between the group and other armed groups.
"An important thing that researchers fail to distinguish is that there are groups that are not Boko Haram that carry out attacks, yet they are labeled as Boko Haram. For example, there are armed groups that do not claim jihad; when they carry out an attack, a bribe is paid and it is called Boko Haram," said Kabiru Adamu of Beacon Security and Intelligence Limited.
