Zamfara PDP Accused Minister Of State For Defence Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle

The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, of turning the Defence Ministry into a political platform for partisan activities instead of focusing on Nigeria’s security challenges.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, on Thursday, the party described the minister’s actions as a “national embarrassment,” alleging that he has been using Defence House for political receptions and gatherings. The party argued that such behaviour is inconsistent with the seriousness required of his national security responsibilities.

According to the PDP, it is “alarming and indefensible” that while communities in Zamfara continue to suffer from bandit attacks, abductions, and killings, the Defence Ministry is being used for partisan purposes. The party insisted that the minister’s conduct undermines public confidence and distracts from urgent security duties.

The statement called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately caution Dr. Matawalle and ensure that the Defence Ministry remains apolitical. It further urged the Federal Government to prevent the use of defence facilities for political events and to focus on restoring peace and safety in Zamfara and other troubled areas of the country.

The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting genuine efforts aimed at ending insecurity and restoring normalcy in the state.
