Afghanistan Accuses Pakistan of Breaking Truce as 10 Killed in Air Strikes

Renewed border tensions threaten fragile peace between the two neighbours.

The government of Afghanistan has accused Pakistan of violating a recently agreed ceasefire after air strikes reportedly killed at least 10 people in border regions. The attacks, which occurred late on Monday, came just days after both countries agreed to a 48-hour truce aimed at easing rising tensions.

According to Taliban officials, Pakistani warplanes targeted areas in Khost and Paktika, destroying homes and vehicles belonging to civilians. Pakistan’s military, however, denied the allegations, claiming the strikes were a “measured response” to cross-border attacks that killed several of its soldiers.

Analysts say the renewed clashes could further strain relations between the two neighbours, who have long accused each other of harbouring militants and failing to prevent cross-border insurgent activities.
