As reported by the Katsina Times newspaper, engineers Magaji Abdullahi Yankara and Lukman Rabiu Faskari, who are young indigenes of Katsina State, have built locally-used electric-powered vehicles and are seeking government support to expand this technological venture. Doing so would greatly help the youth in bringing progress to Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole.
The engineers, in collaboration with students from a secondary school in Sokoto, built passenger vehicles capable of carrying between six to twelve people. This achievement attracted the attention of local and international media outlets and received praise from the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).
Currently, the youths are working at the Research, Innovation, and Development Department of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. They stated that their goal is to transfer this knowledge to the youth of Katsina by incorporating electric vehicle technology courses into the school curriculum. They have already developed textbooks for secondary school students from SS1 to SS3, along with a plan to train teachers who will instruct the students.
Furthermore, they expressed interest in returning to their home state of Katsina to establish an electric vehicle technology teaching unit at the Katsina Youths Crafts Village (KYCV), aiming to make the state the center for electric vehicle innovation in Nigeria.
The engineers emphasized that they have the expertise to build any type of electric vehicle and look forward to collaborating with the Katsina State Government to promote the technology and create job opportunities for the youth.
Encouraging youth in such fields of science and technology is crucial for societal progress. This is how young people gain employment, become self-reliant, and even help others.
