Yemen’s Army Claims Over 1,500 Houthi Casualties in Past 24 Hours

Yemen’s internationally recognised government forces say they carried out 474 military operations against Houthi targets across several fronts over the past 24 hours, claiming that 1,540 Houthi fighters were killed or wounded.

The army said most of the reported casualties occurred in Taiz, where fighting has intensified and government forces say they have halted a Houthi advance. The operations reportedly involved warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles and rocket launchers targeting Houthi positions, reinforcements and command centres.

The army also claimed that 216 military vehicles and other assets were destroyed or damaged during the operations. However, these casualty and damage figures were claims by the Yemeni government forces and have not been independently verified. The Houthis have not provided a matching figure for their losses.

The latest escalation comes amid renewed fighting in Yemen after a period of relative calm following the 2022 UN-brokered truce. The intensified conflict has also worsened the humanitarian situation, with the World Food Programme reporting that 74% of households in government-controlled areas it can access are experiencing insufficient food.
