Federal agents have searched the Washington, D.C., home of US Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, a frequent critic of President Donald Trump, as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
The search was carried out on Monday by agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) under a warrant authorised by a court and obtained through the Department of Justice. However, authorities have not publicly disclosed the full details of the investigation.
The operation comes amid renewed scrutiny of Omar’s immigration history. Reports indicate that investigators may be examining immigration documents completed by her late father when she was a child. Omar has previously denied allegations of immigration fraud, while officials have yet to publicly establish the claims against her.
Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, has repeatedly faced criticism from Trump and other Republican leaders over her political views and background. She is also seeking re-election in the upcoming November midterm elections, raising questions about the timing of the search and concerns over the potential political implications of federal investigations close to an election.
The Justice Department confirmed that the search was connected to an ongoing federal criminal investigation but declined to provide further information. Omar’s office had not immediately issued a public response at the time of the reports.
