Polish police are investigating an alleged plot to assassinate Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz after receiving information about a possible attack targeting the country's senior leaders.
Poland's Interior Ministry confirmed on Sunday, October 11, that information about the potential threat had been passed to the police by the State Protection Service, which is responsible for protecting senior government officials. Authorities subsequently convened an emergency meeting involving the police, security agencies and government representatives to discuss the situation.
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for Poland's special services coordinator, said authorities were treating the information with the utmost seriousness, warning that there was a significant possibility that the reported threats could be carried out. Officials did not disclose details about the alleged plot or identify any suspects.
According to reports, the initial information included an email about the potential threat. However, officials indicated that the concerns went beyond the email itself. Security agencies are continuing their investigations to establish the credibility and origin of the reported plot.
The investigation comes amid heightened security concerns in Poland following several violent incidents, including school stabbing attacks that left one person dead and others injured. The country has also faced growing concerns about threats against political figures and national security.
