The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Nigerians to carefully scrutinise the promises made by political candidates before deciding who to elect as their representatives in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
The Sultan also cautioned politicians against exploiting insecurity and other challenges facing the country during their election campaigns. He urged them to focus on issues that would promote peace, unity and national development.
He made the remarks when he received the campaign committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), led by the Director-General of the presidential campaign, Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari Abubakar, at his palace in Sokoto.
The Sultan wished the APC campaign committee success and prayed for lasting peace and security across Nigeria.
