The Kano State Government is working to restore operations at the Thomas Water Treatment Plant, a facility that has been shut down for years.
The Kano State Government announced that test pumping of drinking water from the Thomas Water Treatment Plant in Danbatta Local Government Area will begin soon.
The state Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He stated that the plant has a daily treatment and distribution capacity of 2.4 million liters of drinking water, designed to supply communities in Makoda, Kunya, Danbatta, and other surrounding villages in Kano North.
The commissioner explained that the facility had been non-operational for over six years due to damaged electrical systems, mechanical equipment breakdown, and burst water pipes.
He added that the state government is undertaking the rehabilitation project to alleviate water scarcity across various parts of the state.
According to Hashim, the repair work is near completion, with plans underway to commence test pumping shortly.
He noted that the water plant revival initiative spans the entire state, including facilities in Joda, Guzu-Guzu, Magaga, and Fada, which are also near completion.
He also commended the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his commitment to ending water scarcity in Kano.
