Governor Nasir Idris Joins Nigerian Delegation at the United Nations General Assembly.
Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has arrived in New York City, USA, where he joined the high-level Nigerian delegation attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Nigerian delegation is led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the summit.
Prior to the official commencement of Nigeria's activities at the summit, Governor Nasir Idris attended a high-level briefing chaired by the Vice President. The briefing was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, alongside other senior federal government officials.
Discussions focused on Nigeria's strategic preparations, diplomatic side meetings, engagements with world leaders, and other key events scheduled during the summit.
Governor Nasir Idris attended the meeting alongside the governors of Kwara, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Nasarawa, Abdullahi Sule; Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara; and Borno, Babagana Zulum.
Additionally, several senior federal officials attended the briefing, including the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite; and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim.
According to the statement, Governor Nasir Idris’s presence at the assembly offers Kebbi State an opportunity to expand engagements with global investors and international stakeholders, particularly to attract investment in solid minerals and other economic sectors.
The General Debate of the 81st UNGA will run from September 22 to 28, 2026, under the theme: “Restoring Trust, Driving Transformation: A United Nations Delivering for All.”
Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national address and represent the President at several high-level summits and bilateral diplomatic meetings.
