The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has heard evidence about how 10 children went missing after Russia annexed Crimea, amid allegations concerning the treatment and disappearance of children following the takeover of the Ukrainian territory.
The case examines events surrounding the children’s disappearances and the responsibilities of the authorities involved. Lawyers and representatives have presented evidence to the court as part of proceedings concerning alleged violations of human rights.
The annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014 has been widely disputed internationally, with Ukraine and many governments continuing to regard Crimea as Ukrainian territory under Russian occupation.
The ECHR is examining the evidence and arguments presented by the parties before reaching any conclusions.
