President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on religious leaders in Nigeria, Africa, and other parts of the world to continue using their voices in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping, and the use of religion to justify killings and violence. Tinubu stated that no true faith can thrive through the shedding of the blood of innocent people.

The President made this call on Sunday in Kano, in a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the grand Maulud (birthday celebration) of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani (RTA). He said religious leaders have a crucial role to play in raising awareness among youths, teaching peace, religious knowledge, and good morals, while also calling on political leaders to practice justice and compassion.
Tinubu noted that the challenges facing the world, including wars, economic hardships, hunger, terrorism, and conflicts fueled by religion and ethnicity, further underscore the importance of religious leaders in fostering peace. He stated that the Tijjaniyya order, given its extensive network across West Africa and North Africa, has the opportunity to help mediate conflicts, combat extremism, and guide youths toward purity of heart.
The President also described Nigeria as a country of great significance to regional stability due to its position between West Africa, the Sahel, Lake Chad, and the Gulf of Guinea. He affirmed that the Federal Government will continue to protect Nigerians' rights to practice their religion while strengthening collaboration with religious leaders and traditional rulers to ensure peace, unity, and mutual respect.
Tinubu also offered condolences for the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, whose absence he said was deeply felt at the event, describing him as a teacher, father, and advocate for peace and understanding. He said the best way to honor the Sheikh is to continue his legacy of Qur'anic education, teaching good morals, worshipping God, promoting peace, and caring for the welfare of the community he left behind.
