Thousands of Tigrayan refugees have fled into Sudan following a surge in deadly violence along the Ethiopia–Sudan border, according to humanitarian agencies and local officials.
The violence reportedly involved armed clashes in border areas, forcing civilians to abandon their homes and seek safety across the frontier. Aid organisations said many of those arriving in Sudan are women, children and elderly people who have travelled under difficult conditions.
Sudanese authorities and humanitarian groups have been working to provide emergency assistance, including food, water, shelter and medical care. However, aid workers warn that the growing number of arrivals is placing additional pressure on already stretched resources.
The latest displacement comes as many Tigrayans continue to face insecurity and humanitarian challenges despite the peace agreement that formally ended the Tigray conflict in Ethiopia. Human rights groups have repeatedly expressed concern about violence, displacement and limited access to essential services in affected areas.
International organisations have called for restraint, protection of civilians and increased humanitarian access to support those affected by the violence. They have also urged all parties to prevent further escalation and address the underlying causes of instability in the border region.
