In a heartwarming ceremony held on August 26, 2026, the MISAU Truck Drivers Association (MITDA) honoured Dr. Abu-Ubaida Sani, a renowned Hausa linguist, educator, and researcher, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the promotion and development of the Hausa language. The recognition took place on World Hausa Day, an annual cultural celebration observed by Hausa people across the globe to celebrate their linguistic and cultural heritage.
A Celebration of Hausa Language and Heritage
World Hausa Day, formally known
as #RanarHausa, was introduced on August 26, 2015, by Nigerian journalist
Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to promote the Hausa language online and raise awareness
of the challenges facing it. Over the years, the celebration has grown into an
international observance, with events held in Nigeria, Ghana, and locations as
far as Istanbul.
The MITDA's gesture underscores
the importance of Hausa not only as a means of communication but as a cultural
identity, heritage, and bridge to the future. The association's message to Dr.
Sani read:
"A wannan rana mai
muhimmanci, muke taya ka murna da addu'ar Allah ya kara maka basira, karfin
hali da nasara waken ci gaba da hidimar harshenmu na Hausa. Ka kasance abin
alfahari ga Misau, Jihar Bauchi, Hausawa da duniya baki daya."
This translates to: "On this
important day, we congratulate you and pray that Allah grants you more wisdom,
courage, and success in your continued service to our Hausa language. You are a
source of pride to Misau, Bauchi State, the Hausa people, and the world at
large."
About Dr. Abu-Ubaida Sani
Dr. Abu-Ubaida Sani is a
distinguished Hausa linguist, educator, and researcher who has dedicated his
career to the advancement of the Hausa language in academia, translation, and
the digital space.
Born on June 1, 1993, in Misau
Local Government Area, Bauchi State, Dr. Sani holds B.A. Ed., M.A., and Ph.D.
degrees in Hausa Studies, all obtained from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
He currently serves as a lecturer in the Department of Languages and Cultures
at Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, where he teaches courses such as
Hausa Syntax and Principles and Practice of Translation.
Dr. Sani is also the founder of
Amsoshi Language Services, through which he leads a team of native linguists
providing professional language solutions in Hausa, Pidgin, Yoruba, Igbo,
Fulah, and Kanuri. His services include translation, proofreading,
interpretation, transcription, voice-over, localization, and cultural
consulting.
Research and Advocacy for Hausa in the Digital Age
Dr. Sani has been at the
forefront of research on the Hausa language in the internet environment. His
scholarly work, including publications such as "Hausa in the 21st Century
Internet Environment: From Easy Access to Documentation" and "Humanities
and the Challenges of the 21st Century Internet Community: Hausa Studies in
Struggle," has critically examined the challenges facing Hausa websites
and blogs, including cultural insensitivity, orthographic errors, and poor
information quality.
He advocates for greater
involvement of language and cultural experts in managing internet platforms to
ensure the Hausa language thrives online. His work has been published in
several academic journals globally, and he has participated in both national and
international academic conferences.

The recognition by MITDA is not
only a celebration of Dr. Sani's achievements but also a reminder of the

grow for ECOWAS to recognize Hausa for trade and commerce, and for the Nigerian
