In another significant recognition of his tireless dedication to the promotion and development of the Hausa language, Dr. Abu-Ubaida Sani has been honoured with the prestigious "Language Enthusiast of the Year" Award by the Department of Nigerian Languages, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Nasarawa State.
The award was presented during
the university's Cultural Conference held on July 22, 2026, a gathering that
celebrated Nigeria's rich linguistic and cultural diversity. The honour
recognises Dr. Sani's exceptional contributions to Hausa language scholarship,
advocacy, and digital development.
A Grateful Heart
Expressing his gratitude, Dr.
Sani took to social media to share his joy:
"Godiya ta tabbata ga
Ubangiji Maɗaukakin
Sarki! Sashen Nazarin Harsunan Nijeriya na Jami'ar Tarayya Lafiya, Jahar
Nasarawa - sun ba ni kambun 'Mai Hidima a Harshen Hausa' a yau 22 ga watan
Yuli, shekarar 2026. Ina yi musu godiya da fatan alheri tare da addu'ar Allah
ya ci gaba da ɗaukaka
wannan sashe. Ina kuma godiya ga dukkannin malamaina da abokai da sauran masu
ba mu ƙwarin guiwa. Ina farin ciki a duk lokacin da na ga harshen
Hausa ya samu wakilci a wani taro ko wata hidima da ta shafi harsuna. Masu ayyuka
a wasu harsuna na daban (musamman waɗanda
ba su da masaniya game da ƙoƙari da ake yi wa Hausa) sukan yi matuƙar
mamaki yayin da aka fito musu da bayanai da suka shafi ayyukan ci gaba da ake
gudanarwa game da harshen Hausa."
Translation:
"All thanks be to Almighty
God! The Department of Nigerian Languages at Federal University of Lafia,
Nasarawa State — they conferred on me the title of 'Servant of the Hausa
Language' today, July 22, 2026. I thank them and wish them well, with prayers
that Allah continues to elevate this department. I also thank all my teachers,
friends, and others who encourage us. I am always happy whenever I see the
Hausa language represented at any conference or event related to languages.
Practitioners of other languages (especially those who are unaware of the
efforts being made for Hausa) are often very surprised when they are presented
with information about the developmental work being carried out on the Hausa
language."
He added that he finds joy
whenever the Hausa language is represented at any conference or event involving
languages. According to him, practitioners of other languages — especially
those unaware of the efforts being made to advance Hausa — are often astonished
when they learn about the progress and innovations being carried out in the
language.
Recognition of a Growing Legacy
This latest honour follows
closely on the heels of a similar recognition Dr. Sani received just weeks
earlier from the MISAU Truck Drivers Association (MITDA) on World Hausa
Language Day, August 26, 2026. The two recognitions in quick succession speak
volumes about his growing influence and the esteem in which he is held within
the Hausa-speaking community.
Dr. Sani dedicated the award to
all those who support his mission:
"Na sadaukar da wannan
kambu ga duk masu aikat daidai da ra'uwa bisa ga fahimta da riƙon
amana. Ina fatan Allah ya ci gaba da yi mana jagoranci. Amin!"
Translation:
"I dedicate this
crown/honour to all those who work righteously with sincerity and integrity. I
hope Allah continues to guide us. Amen!"
A Scholar of International Repute
Dr. Abu-Ubaida Sani is a widely
published researcher and educator. He holds B.A. Ed., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees
in Hausa Studies from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He currently serves
as a lecturer in the Department of Languages and Cultures at Federal University
Gusau, Zamfara State.
He is also the founder of Amsoshi
Language Services, a team of native linguists providing professional
translation, interpretation, transcription, voice-over, and cultural consulting
services in Hausa, Pidgin, Yoruba, Igbo, Fulah, and Kanuri.
His research focuses on Hausa in
the digital space, and he has published several scholarly articles examining
the challenges and opportunities of Hausa language use in the internet
environment.

Events like the FULafia Cultural
Conference and the increasing recognition of language scholars like Dr. Sani
underscore a growing awareness of the importance of indigenous Nigerian

of trade and for the Nigerian government to elevate its status nationally.
