The Katsina State Government, under the leadership of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has launched the distribution of 90,000 bags of grains to those in need across the state's 34 local government areas.
This support initiative is designed to alleviate the economic hardship faced by the populace and to strengthen food security, particularly for widows, the elderly, persons with special needs, and families experiencing severe economic distress.
At the launch ceremony, the Chairman of Kaita Local Government, Engr. Bello Lawal Yandaki, delivered a welcome address, expressing gratitude to Governor Radda for this significant support, which he said would greatly help in reducing the burden of food scarcity on families facing economic challenges.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa, emphasized that the grain distribution is part of the state government's efforts to support the vulnerable and ensure that no segment of society is left behind. She also called on all stakeholders to ensure that the distribution is conducted with transparency and fairness.
The National Coordinator of the Community Development Programme (CDP), Dr. Kamaladdeen Kabir, explained how the distribution process has been structured through the Ward-Level Committees (CLCs) to ensure that the support reaches deserving beneficiaries at the community level.
In his goodwill message, the Katsina State APC Party Chairman, Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa, praised Governor Radda for his administration's consistent implementation of community support programmes, especially for the needy. He described the grain distribution as a significant testament to the administration's compassion and commitment to improving the lives of citizens.
Similarly, the Sarkin Sullubawan Katsina and District Head of Kaita expressed appreciation to the state government for this support, commending the inclusion of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders in ensuring the success of the programme.
Governor Radda directed all officials and stakeholders involved in the distribution to ensure transparency, fairness, honesty, and trustworthiness, and to guarantee that the grains reach deserving beneficiaries without discrimination or favoritism.
The distribution will be carried out through the Community-Level Committees (CLCs) under the CDP Community Development Programme, in collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, local government authorities, and security personnel.
The Governor stated that this support initiative is part of his administration's broader vision of achieving development through community assistance. Measures include the provision of improved fertilizers and other agricultural inputs at subsidized rates, the supply of irrigation pumps, the drilling of boreholes, and other programmes aimed at boosting agricultural yields and reducing the cost of food.
This new support builds on previous social intervention programmes implemented by the government, including support for 7,220 widows, the distribution of food items and financial assistance to small-scale traders across the state's 361 wards during Ramadan, as well as the distribution of food items in partnership with the Aliko Dangote Foundation.
Attendees at the event included the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Malam Farouq Lawal Jobe, commissioners, government officials, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.
