A Total of Five (5) Farmers Lose Their Lives in a Boat Mishap in Niger State

Five Farmers Perish in Niger State Boat Mishap.

A boat carrying at least five farmers four men and one woman capsized in Kuɗi River, located in the Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State, resulting in the deaths of all onboard.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening, August 16, 2026, in Shaba-Woshi-Kpaya village, within the Edotsu area.

Reports indicate that the farmers lost their lives when the boat overturned while attempting to transport them to their farms across the river—a body of water they were forced to cross daily to reach their farmlands.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the incident.

Furthermore, the agency released the names of the deceased: Yahaya Abubakar, Usman Abubakar, Lami Hussaini, Baba Ahmadu, and Salihu Aliyu. The agency stated that the bodies of all five individuals were recovered and buried on Saturday in accordance with Islamic rites.
