Ukraine says it has carried out strikes on oil and military facilities near Saint Petersburg, as part of its ongoing campaign targeting infrastructure linked to Russia’s military operations.
According to Ukrainian officials, the attacks targeted fuel storage sites and military-related infrastructure believed to support Russian armed forces. The strikes were described as an effort to weaken Russia’s logistical and military capabilities.
Russian authorities acknowledged attacks in the region and said air defence systems were activated to intercept incoming drones or missiles. Officials reported damage to some facilities but said emergency services were quickly deployed to contain the situation.
The incident marks another escalation in the conflict, with both Ukraine and Russia continuing to exchange long-range strikes targeting energy, military, and strategic infrastructure.
Military analysts say such attacks are intended to disrupt supply lines and operational capacity, while also increasing pressure on both sides as the conflict continues with no immediate sign of a negotiated settlement.
