President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new army battalion in Kwara State to bolster security and combat banditry, kidnapping, and other serious crimes.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mashood Agboola, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said the battalion would be based in Omu Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area.
The governor commended Tinubu for approving the request, stating that the new military barracks would enhance counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations in the state.
He also thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and other security agencies for their collaboration in addressing security challenges.
The move comes amid growing concern over deteriorating security in some parts of the state, particularly in the Babanla community of Ifelodun Local Government Area, where residents have accused bandits of continuing to launch attacks—incidents that have resulted in one death and a kidnapping in a recent assault.
