The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has stated that the state is fully prepared to establish a state police force once the legal and constitutional provisions are made available.
The Governor made this known during the inauguration of the Inter-Agency Joint Committee on the Fight Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking at the Kano Government House.
He said the state police force would work alongside the Nigeria Police Force, not to replace it or compete with it. He also emphasized the importance of security agency cooperation in improving intelligence gathering and expediting action on security threats.
Yusuf said Kano has qualified personnel, institutions, and administrative capacity that would enable it to manage a state police force if given the go-ahead to establish it.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed his administration's support for any genuine initiative that would strengthen national security, stating that the inauguration of the drug control committee demonstrates the government's commitment to tackling the problem through collaboration among security agencies and stakeholders.
He also urged committee members to carry out their duties with honesty, professionalism, and dedication.
