American political commentators Cenk Uygur and Hasan Piker say they have been barred from entering the United Kingdom because of their outspoken criticism of Israel and the war in Gaza.
According to the commentators, British authorities revoked or denied their travel authorization ahead of planned appearances in London, including events connected to SXSW London and university discussions.
Uygur, founder of the online political platform tyt.com, claimed British officials described him as “a serious risk to public order” because of comments he made criticizing Israeli policies and alleging excessive influence by Israel on Western politics.
Piker, a popular online streamer and political commentator, also said the UK revoked his permission to enter the country. He accused Western governments of suppressing criticism of Israel and abandoning free speech principles.
British authorities have not publicly released detailed statements on the cases, but several reports said concerns were raised over previous controversial remarks made by both commentators, including comments critics described as inflammatory or antisemitic.
Jewish advocacy groups in Britain had earlier called on the government to block Piker’s entry, citing past statements about Israel, Hamas, and Jewish communities.
The incident has intensified debate over free speech, criticism of Israel, antisemitism, and the limits governments should place on foreign public figures entering the country. Supporters of the commentators described the move as political censorship, while critics argued the UK has a responsibility to prevent rhetoric that could fuel hatred or public unrest.
