Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a man suspected of being a spy for the ISWAP group over allegations of planning an attack on two military camps in Borno State, as reported by TheCable newspaper.
The man, identified as Muhammad Shuaibu, was arrested at the Chabbol military camp under the 212th Battalion after intelligence reports indicated that an attack was being planned on some military installations.
Reports say the suspect was arrested during a patrol conducted by soldiers near the defensive perimeter surrounding the camp.
Preliminary investigations have shown that the man is suspected of being involved in the plot to attack the 199th Special Forces Battalion, popularly known as Mosquito Camp, as well as the military camp at Chabbol.
Military sources said the suspect confessed during questioning that the attack had been planned, and further claimed that the assailants intended to proceed with the plan despite his arrest.
The military stated that the arrest has given security officials the opportunity to further tighten security measures at the camps believed to be targeted for attack.
Subsequently, the suspect has been handed over to the 7th Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation, while Operation Hadin Kai continues to conduct intelligence-gathering operations to thwart terrorist activities in the North-East region.
