UNSC Condemns RSF Attacks in Sudan’s Kordofan, Calls for an End to the War

The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Kordofan region of Sudan, calling for an immediate end to the ongoing conflict that continues to imperil civilians.

In an official statement, the Council expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, highlighting the loss of lives, destruction of homes, and displacement of thousands of people. It stressed that all parties must protect civilians and adhere to international humanitarian law.

The UNSC urged an immediate ceasefire, the opening of humanitarian corridors to aid affected populations, and a return to political negotiations to find a sustainable resolution. It warned that continued fighting would exacerbate hunger, insecurity, and the collapse of essential services in affected areas.

The conflict in Sudan has long caused severe suffering, prompting repeated calls from international actors and organisations for a peaceful and negotiated solution.
