UN Warns AI Could Deepen Inequality Among World States

The United Nations has issued a strong warning that the rapid rise of artificial intelligence could widen inequality between countries, especially between technologically advanced nations and developing states. In its latest report, the UN said AI is expanding at a pace many governments are not prepared for, creating a risk that poorer countries may be left behind.

According to the UN, wealthy nations are investing heavily in AI research, infrastructure, and education, giving them a major advantage in harnessing the technology for economic growth. Meanwhile, many developing countries lack the resources, skilled manpower, or regulations needed to benefit from AI, making the global technology gap even larger.

Officials also highlighted concerns that AI could concentrate power in the hands of a few major corporations and countries, especially those dominating data collection and advanced computing. This, the UN warned, might allow powerful states to influence global markets, security, and economic decisions in ways less-developed nations cannot match.

The report urges world leaders to adopt policies that ensure fair access to digital resources, AI training, and technology transfer. The UN also advises governments to invest in human capital, build reliable internet infrastructure, and create regulations that protect citizens while promoting innovation.

Despite the concerns, the UN noted that AI still offers major opportunities for development, if managed carefully. It said collaboration, transparency, and global cooperation will be key to preventing AI from becoming a new driver of global inequality.
