US Assures Nigeria Of Support In Tackling Security Challenges — Presidency

The Nigerian Presidency says the United States government has expressed readiness to support the country in tackling its security challenges.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said Washington reaffirmed its commitment to deepening security cooperation with Nigeria. According to him, the planned support includes advanced intelligence-gathering technology, security equipment, and other resources aimed at boosting ongoing operations against terrorists and extremist groups.

The development follows last week’s high-level meeting between a Nigerian delegation and senior US officials.

Both countries agreed to reinforce security ties and explore new areas of collaboration.

The Presidency stated that the Nigerian team, led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, held discussions with senior members of the US Congress, the White House Office of Religious Affairs, the Department of State, the National Security Council, and the Department of Defense.

The Nigerian delegation dismissed allegations of “genocide” in Nigeria, insisting that violent attacks affect families and communities across different backgrounds. It also rejected the language used by some groups to describe the situation, warning that such narratives risk dividing Nigerians and distorting the reality on the ground.

According to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, both nations agreed to implement an immediate framework for enhanced cooperation, including the establishment of a joint working group to coordinate areas where mutual commitments were reached.
