The United Nations has warned that millions more people face the threat of hunger in conflict-affected regions around the world.

Two UN agencies issued the warning on Wednesday, stating that the affected areas include Sudan and Gaza, and they called for funding to address the gap created by the reduction in international aid.

In a joint statement, the UN's World Food Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization listed other countries facing the threat, including Haiti, Mali, South Sudan, and Yemen, stating they will experience severe hunger.

There are also other countries warned to face hunger problems, though not as severe as the first list, and they include Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Nigeria, Somalia, and Syria.

The agencies said there is a need for more donors among governments and organizations because, by the end of October, they had received $10.5 billion out of the $29 billion estimated needed to provide food aid to combat hunger.

The United States was the largest donor to the UN last year, but this year it reduced the amount of foreign aid it provides, and there are other countries that have also reduced their aid contributions.
