Ukrainian officials say their forces carried out a long-range drone strike on a Russian oil refinery located close to Moscow, in what they describe as part of a wider effort to weaken Russia’s fuel infrastructure ahead of the winter months.
According to Ukraine’s security sources, the targeted refinery is one of the facilities believed to be supplying fuel to Russian military operations. The strike reportedly triggered a fire at the site, though Russian authorities have not confirmed the extent of the damage.
Russia, however, acknowledged that it intercepted several Ukrainian drones overnight, claiming that air-defence systems destroyed most of them before they reached their targets.
This latest attack comes as winter draws closer, a period when both sides typically step up operations, Ukraine aiming to disrupt Russia’s supply chain, and Russia escalating strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid.
Military analysts say Ukraine’s strategy focuses on putting pressure on Russia’s war machinery while also sending a clear signal that its long-range capabilities continue to grow, despite challenges on the front line.
Both Russia and Ukraine have increased cross-border strikes in recent weeks, raising concerns that the conflict could intensify further as temperatures drop and infrastructure becomes more vulnerable.
