The government of Tanzania has released several top opposition leaders days after violent protests erupted over the country’s disputed elections.
Reports indicate that hundreds of protesters were arrested after taking to the streets to challenge what they described as widespread electoral fraud and corruption.
Authorities confirmed today that the detained opposition figures were freed in an effort to ease tensions and restore peace across major cities and regions.
Protesters continue to demand a transparent and fair election process, as well as respect for human rights and democracy in the country.
