The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed the United States’ allegation that the country is among nations where there are restrictions on religious freedom and cases of genocide against Christians.

In a statement, the government said Nigeria is a country that respects freedom of religion, where Muslims, Christians, and followers of other faiths practice their beliefs peacefully and without discrimination.

The government further explained that the U.S. report does not reflect the true situation in the country, noting that the security challenges facing Nigeria affect people of all faiths, not just one religious group.

It added that Nigeria remains committed to promoting peace, justice, and tolerance across all regions, and called on the international community to avoid making judgments based on inaccurate or biased information.
