A Nigerian Army general fell into an ambush by ISWP militants on Friday night in Borno State. Reports indicate that the militants captured the General and killed many soldiers with him, including members of the CJTF.
A report by HumAngle, a conflict and humanitarian issues-focused outlet, reported by Premium Times, said the captured General is the commander of a military brigade and was leading the forces at the time.
If confirmed, "this is the first time a group has captured a serving General from the battlefield," according to HumAngle.
Although terrorists have killed senior military officers in some attacks, it is rare to hear of the capture of such high-ranking military officers.
The military authorities have yet to issue a statement on the incident, and the death toll has not been confirmed.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant-Colonel Onyechi Anele, has not responded to an inquiry sent to him regarding the incident.
