Governor Radda Launches Metropolitan Area Fibre Network and Independent Solar-Power System to Drive Digital Transformation in Katsina
The Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, Ph.D., CON, has launched a new modern communications network (the Katsina Metropolitan Area Fibre Network) along with an Independent Solar-Power System, describing these projects as major achievements that will accelerate technological adoption, expand internet access, and create new economic opportunities for the state's youth.
The launch was held today at the KATDICT center, shortly after the conclusion of the Invest Katsina Economic Summit, which was one of the government's significant steps towards strengthening the modern communications infrastructure and positioning Katsina State at the forefront of technological innovation. Governor Radda emphasized that this launch is a crucial step in digitizing and modernizing the governance system, stating that "Digital is the way forward, and Katsina will not be left behind."
The Governor explained that this project was made possible by a key government policy – the removal of Right of Way (RoW) fees – which attracted an investment of over 4 billion Naira for the deployment of 25 kilometers of fibre-optic cable within Katsina city.
He said this network will expand access to high-quality, fast internet, which will empower young men and women to leverage technology for education, business, remote work, and full participation in the digital world. He pointed out that the global economy is now tilting towards information technology, making it essential for the youth of Katsina to have the tools and opportunities to compete with their peers.
Governor Radda added that the fibre network is the foundation for achieving the "One Government Enterprise" vision, where all government operations will be digital and automated, and citizens will be able to access government services from their devices with just a single click.
He stressed that Northern Nigeria has lagged in technological adoption for a long time, so there is an urgent need for the government to take decisive action to open up major avenues of progress for the youth in the digital world.
The Governor commended its partners, IHS, for their collaboration and assured that the government is ready to welcome all companies in the ICT sector. He outlined the plan to ensure that all local government headquarters receive free internet, one of the key policies for transforming the state's digital landscape.
