The rescue operation, which was jointly conducted by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Police, led to the safe release of these Chinese nationals.
Reports indicate that gunmen had kidnapped the Chinese miners while they were traveling to a mining site in Saminaka village, Kogi State.
During the handover of the rescued victims in Abuja, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, represented by the Deputy Chief of Mission of China, Wang Jun, praised the Nigerian security agencies, particularly the DSS, for their swift action based on intelligence.
He also thanked the agency for providing the rescued victims with specialized medical care at the DSS facility in Abuja.
