Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, was recently conferred with the traditional title of Sarauniyar Yaki (Queen Warrior) of Akko Emirate in Gombe State.
The honour was conferred on her by Lamido Akko, Alhaji Umar Atiku, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, during her two-day working visit to the state.
As part of the conferment rites, Tinubu was adorned with a royal cape embroidered with a golden yellow pattern and presented with a long black-and-silver spear, symbolising her new status as a warrior queen.
Explaining the reason for the conferment, Atiku said the title was in recognition of the First Lady’s dedication to protecting the interests of vulnerable groups across the country.
In her remarks, Tinubu expressed gratitude to the monarch and pledged to continue advancing the welfare of women and children, particularly the girl child. She also appealed to traditional rulers in the state to support her advocacy and interventions.
During her visit, the First Lady also met with traditional rulers and religious leaders at the Government House, alongside Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, and his wife, Asma’u. She later joined ministers of health and education, Prof Ali Pate and Dr Tunji Alausa respectively, at the commissioning of the Federal Medical Centre, Kumo, where she unveiled the facility’s plaque and engaged students.
As part of her activities, the First Lady also launched the nationwide distribution of the Flow with Confidence menstrual hygiene packs, reaffirming her commitment to healthcare, education, and inclusive leadership under the Renewed Hope agenda.
