Governor Dauda Lawal has urged members of the Zamfara Ulama Council Forum to intensify prayers for lasting peace across the state.
In a statement by Sulaiman Bala Idris, spokesperson for the Zamfara Governor, the appeal was made following a meeting with the Ulama Council, led by Sheikh Umar Kanoma, at the Government House in Gusau on Thursday.
Governor Lawal emphasized the vital role of religious leaders in shaping public opinion and promoting peace, noting that clerics remain close to the people and command their trust.
“Religious leaders play a vital role in everything we do in Zamfara because they are close to the people, and our community listens to them, especially in shaping narratives,” he said.
He acknowledged progress in the fight against banditry but stressed that more effort was needed to achieve lasting stability. Lawal also called for collective responsibility between government, religious leaders, and citizens to secure the state.
