Ex-National Security Adviser faces charges for allegedly mishandling sensitive government files.
Reports from Washington confirm that John Bolton, former National Security Adviser to ex-President Donald Trump, has been indicted on charges of mishandling classified government documents after leaving office.
Prosecutors allege that Bolton kept and shared highly classified information related to U.S. national security and diplomatic operations without proper authorization. They argue that his actions could have posed a risk to national security.
Bolton’s attorney, however, has denied all allegations, saying his client did not commit any crime and that the documents in question were no longer classified at the time Bolton left his position.
The indictment comes as U.S. authorities continue to tighten enforcement on the mishandling of government secrets, following a series of high-profile cases - including the one involving former President Trump’s handling of classified documents.
The case is expected to move forward in the coming weeks as investigators continue to determine whether more sensitive materials may have been improperly retained by the former adviser.
